Up until recently I’ve been using some pretty nasty chemicals to unblock our bathroom sink, which seems to get blocked every month or so.

I’ve never felt completely comfortable with this, and usually have to wait til my little guy is out of the house because a. fumes! and b. little curious hands (you have to leave the chemical stuff in the sink for 15 minutes, eesh!)

So you can imagine my pleasure when I stumbled upon this tip online for cleaning your drains naturally. Which WORKS (cue jumping up and down with glee and feeling like a super grown up)

Easy Peasy Natural Drain Cleaner

  1. Pour a bunch of bicarb down your drain (if you can take the grate-thing off the plug hole first, this is ideal, if not, I use the end of a paint brush to poke it down the holes)
  2. Pour two cups of white vinegar down after it
  3. Watch it FIZZ (and cackle like a mad scientist if you so desire)
  4. Leave for 15 minutes
  5. Pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain
  6. Repeat weekly for a prophylactic effect

Et voila, you are done.

NB: Because of the state of my drains I did have to repeat this process a second time, but now they are sparkling clean.

If only I could say the same for the rest of the house…

I hope you enjoyed this fun little recipe. It’s also perfectly child friendly and quite fun, so maybe next time you can make your children clean your drains for you, bahahahahaha!

Much love and happy cleaning,

Jess
