Kirianna Poole has spent the last five years travelling with her husband and three kids in their vintage Kombi. Life travels slowly in an old campervan, and for Kirianna, that means lots of time to dream up simple, hearty food that’s perfect for cooking while camping. This is food for families who crave a slower life, more connection with people, the land, and, just as importantly, themselves.

After five years of exploring the open road with her husband and three kids in their beloved vintage Kombi, Kirianna has mastered the art of cooking delicious, wholesome meals wherever the journey takes them.

Life slows down in an old campervan, giving Kirianna plenty of time to dream up hearty, simple dishes perfect for camping. Schooled in her dad’s restaurants and inspired by the joys of a slower-paced life, she believes great food is the foundation of unforgettable family adventures.

From the small burner in her van to the smoky warmth of a campfire, The Slow Road Cookbook is packed with recipes designed for families who want to eat better outdoors. Say goodbye to two-minute noodles—this cookbook brings together the flavours Kirianna grew up with in her Māori family in New Zealand, international tastes she’s discovered on her travels, and camping classics born under the Aussie bush sky.

With over 80 mouth-watering recipes, including chapters on meats, chicken, seafood, desserts, breakfasts, and even a few cheeky cocktails, there’s something for everyone. Whether she’s cooking with a baby strapped to her chest or while her barefooted kids run wild, Kirianna shows that slowing down, connecting with loved ones, and savouring good food can transform any adventure into a lifelong memory.
